How many sit ups are good if you are starting off and how many sets should you do?

Answer:
You should try to see how many you can do in a minut and as your watching tv just occasionally do a few
Start out with a comfortable number and gradually increase as you become used to doing them. I am 50 and I do 25 every morning, and 25 every evening. I started with 10 and 10 and am almost ready to go up to 30 and 30.
just so you know regular situps are not effective for getting abs. you should do more exercises like the bicycle situps, squats and lunges. also i have heard of "hip hop abs" look it up. it seems fun.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's book and frequent articles recomend ten minutes straight of constant, no rest ab work everyday for someone who works out. My recomendation for a beginer is to do a total of five or so minutes per day, everyday of
crunches
leglifts (laying on the floor)
sidecrunches
roman chair if available
I would start out doing crunches and do as many as i could without counting. after i need to stop i would pause only for a few seconds and do another set. After this one i would move on to the next excersise. Gradually bulid your way up to ten minutes of connstant ab excersises and you will be in great shape.
I personally have a nice six pack from just doing roman chair and side roman chair, 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Cardio is important too though. Many people forget about this but no matter how big your abdominal muscles, if you have a layer of fat over them they will be hidden.
i used to do 1000 a night in about 15 minutes. if your just starting out i'd say...8 sets of 25. but incoperate other stuff too. leg lifts, bicycles, etc.
