How many cigs (or packs of cigs) will it take to 'hurt' my lungs?

like when i start to not be able to run for as long, or run as fast, swim as fast, stay as fit...?
Answer:
Many people are addicted from the first cigarette they smoke. Most are addicted by the end of the first pack. Some say they only smoke once in a while, but that doesn't last -- you keep needing more and more. This dirty habit will hurt your health, right from the beginning, even if the effects do not show up for a few months. It will also make people not want to be around you (you'll stink), and it is very expensive. And the upside is??

Every cigarette you smoke hurts your lunfs. Man, don't smoke! Even those who've smoked a long time, benefit from stopping! Give your lungs all the help you can on this polluted planet!
After about a week of smoking you will be able to feel the effects on running, give it 2 months before breathing gets all weird... smoking is disgusting and definitely my #1 turn off.. Please don't start it's terrible for you and the people around you.
You will stay as fit as you like as long as you are committed. You can smoke drink, whatever, but as long as you work out and stay fit you should be fine. But smoking will cause you to loose your breath, decrease appetite and sence of smell and taste. You would also not be able to run as long and as fast as you once could cause it would cause sharp pains in your belly.
Your lungs started to be damaged the moment you took that first drag.

If you can run as long etc etc... time to stop.
I smoked for 13 years.I'm 40 now %26 have Copd w/Emphysema %26 Asthma...even the simplest tasks make me out of breath...Quit while your young...do sports intead...or volunteer somewhere...read up on what smoking can really do to your lungs...knowledge is power...Good luck

Being able to run or swim is not the problem. Smoking even one cigarette is one too many. The risk you encounter is lung or throat cancer, much worse than running or swimming more slowly than you would like. Stop before you begin and do yourself a life saving favor.
