How often should a 68 yr old man have a colon proceedure for internal checking?

Answer:
The American Cancer Society recommends the following tests for colorectal cancer screening in average risk individuals:
1. Flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years, with annual fecal occult blood tests.

2. Colonoscopy, every 10 years.

3. Double contrast Barium Enemas, every 5 years, with annual fecal occult blood trsting.

the most accurate is the colonoscopy. Medicare will pay for this, as long as 47 months have passed since your first test.
If you have risk factors, such as immediate family with history of adenomatous colon polyps, or colorectal cancer, then the interval should be every 5 years, colonoscopy.
As you are only a young feller you should try to have a colonoscopy done every two years. It is done as day surgery and you should be referred by your GP. In my own case, as both my parents had bowel cancer, I make sure I never miss having it done. Early detection of a problem can save a lot of trouble.
year;y
my doctor says he'll see me in 5 yrs after colon test unless i notice something that would warrant coming back sooner,, his thinking is every 5 years after the age of 50 just as safety precaution
